Austin Music Teachers exists to connect families with high-quality, independent music teachers while supporting educators in building sustainable, student-centered studios. We are committed to elevating music education by prioritizing integrity, transparency, and meaningful learning experiences for every student.
Our Story
Austin Music Teachers was created out of a deep belief that music education deserves better-for students, for families, and for teachers.
After years of working as both a professional musician and a private instructor, I experienced firsthand the wide range of teaching environments available in the music lesson industry. While many studios are built with good intentions, I often saw systems that prioritized growth and profit over the quality of instruction and the long-term development of both students and teachers. In some cases, teachers had little control over their schedules, teaching approach, or income, and families had limited visibility into who was actually teaching their child and what qualifications they held.
At the same time, I saw something very different happening outside of those systems. Independent teachers-many of them highly trained, deeply committed musicians-were building thoughtful, student-centered studios. They were designing their own curriculum, investing in their students, and creating meaningful, lasting musical experiences. But these teachers were often harder for families to find, and they lacked the visibility and infrastructure of larger organizations.
Austin Music Teachers was created to bridge that gap

Every teacher in the network maintains control over their teaching, their schedule, and their business-because we believe that empowered teachers create better learning experiences for students.
For families, this means greater transparency, higher quality instruction, and the ability to find a teacher who is truly the right fit for their child. For teachers, it means the opportunity to grow a sustainable, independent studio without sacrificing their values or autonomy.

Teachers can upload their headshot, bio/teaching philosophy, instruments they teach, service area, lesson videos, and credentials to help students and parents find the right match.
Parents and students can browse teacher profiles by instrument, location, experience level, and teaching style. They can watch performance videos and read bios to make an informed choice.
Once you find a teacher you’re interested in, you can contact them directly through their profile via email to discuss lesson availability, rates, and scheduling.
Yes. Teachers can specify whether they provide in-person lessons, online lessons, or both, allowing students to choose the format that works best for them.
